Tavistock survives as a bustling market town and is great for mooching about! Shops, cafes, riverside parkland, children’s playground and an indoor pannier market – oh and there are some great pasties to be tried in numerous locations!!
To get a sense of where and who shaped the town of Tavistock there is a small museum with displays of past times in and around the town and every Friday at 2 pm (starts near to the museum) there are guided walks where you can learn about the development of the town and it’s former Abbey. For more information have a look at http://moorlandguides.co.uk – highly recommended!
For entertainment there is the Wharf an Arts & Entertainment Centre; a great venue for shows, music nights including Blues nights and tribute bands. The cinema links with the Meadowlands Leisure Pool in the summer holidays so you can watch a movie and then go for a swim. The indoor heated pool has water slides and a poolside café, their phone number is (01822) 617774.
The indoor pannier market in Tavistock along with the Farmers market (every 2nd and 4th Saturday in the month) have a great selection of local produce.
